Scawt Walk

Walk on the wild side — Scawt Hill and Glenarm Forest with Robert Stewart

Do you dare to take a walk on the wild side with one of Northern Ireland's most stunning scenic walking tours?

If your answer is yes — join Robert Stewart, Antrim Glens native and trained tour guide, on a refreshing tour of Scawt Hill and Glenarm Forest. Expect fantastic historical insight, local stories and great craic whilst you climb and enjoy the great outdoors.

Located on the beautiful Ulster Way, Scawt Hill is the perfect place to experience unobstructed views of the sweeping Glenarm countryside and Causeway Coastal Route.

As Robert will uncover, there's something at this historical spot for everyone! For the born explorers, archaeological sites await you, dating back as far as the Bronze Age. If you're more of a film fanatic, the tour will parade some of the early filming sites for HBO's hit show Game of Thrones® and recent movie The Northman.

Once you've scaled the spectacular Scawt Hill, you will be rewarded with superb views of Carnalbanagh and Slemish, where St Patrick famously herded animals. Expect fascinating panoramas of the Mountains of Mourne all the way to the Scottish Islands of Islay and Jura. The highest point of the walk is Blackhill, before descending via Feystown Chapel, where you will see a special sculpture of St Patrick as a young man.

As a proud local, Robert knows this region inside out, and will explain the engineering marvel of a 'Layde' before leading you through the enchanting Glenarm Forest. If you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the elusive red squirrels! Our tour ends in Glenarm Village, where you will find even more opportunities to explore or find some refreshments.

The total length of the tour is around 5–6 hours — be aware you will need a reasonable level of fitness as this is a grade 'A' walk over uneven ground with steep inclines.

Grab your hiking boots and head for a ramble with Robert!
